History and Background
National Archives of Malaysia, Johor Branch was established in 1st May 1967. Initially it was known as Archives Office of Johor. As soon it was set up, this department was placed in the Sultan Ibrahim's Building, Bukit Timbalan Johor Bahru, Johor. It was the National Archives first branch in Malaysia. On 1st May 1972, the office was known as National Archives Department of Malaysia, Southern Branch. The name was changed to National Archives of Malaysia, Johor/Melaka Branch on 1st January 1988. From 15th July 2004, it was changed again to National Archives of Malaysia, Johor Branch. Effective 1st February 2009, it was known as National Archives of Malaysia, Johor/ Negeri Sembilan / Melaka Branch. It means that this branch will administer 3 states of South Peninsular Malaysia which is Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. National Archives of Malaysia, Johor/ Negeri Sembilan / Melaka branch is currently placed at Wisma Persekutuan Building, Jalan Ayer Molek Johor Bahru since 14th May 1979. This department also has a branch office in Melaka which is located at Yayasan Belia Sedunia building, Ayer Keroh Melaka.
