She was born on 20 January 1936 in Padang, West Sumatera, Indonesia. The year 1952, was her initiation into the Malay filming scene as an actress in Singapore.  Her inaugural film was "Lupa Daratan". These are among the movies she acted in;

She also acted in dramas for Televisyen Singapura, RTM, privately produced drama series and radio drama, dubbing for foreign movies, and perhaps she could be considered as the pioneer of a dubbing team for RTM. Datin Rosnani took up a diploma course in make-up and beauty in London from 1973 – 1974, aside from enrolling in short-courses in television production and direction at the Television & Film, Academy of London.

        
The onset of her involvement in directing drama series for TV by was her use of 16mm film rolls entitled "Kabus Di Tengah Kota" which was in two episodes, with Uji Rashid as the leading actress in 1986. Other than that, she also directed a feature-film entitled "Mawar Merah" with Mustapha Nur and Raja Ema as the leading casts. Datin Rosnani also directed and acted in a film entitled "Antara Dua Hati". In early 1990, she was involved in directing the TV soap drama entitled "Lagenda Bawang Putih Bawang Merah" and few others for television productions.

 Datin Rosnani also acted in the film "Sumpah Mahsuri" directed by Jamil Sulong in 1989 and she later directed the film "Memory" in 1991 which was produced by her own production company "RJ Filem".

Awards and Accolades which she received include:

1. Best Film Actress in "Jasmin" at the 5th Malaysian Film Festival in 1984
2. Award winner for her film direction of "Mawar Merah" in the 7th Malaysian Film Festival in Melaka (1987)
3. The Jury Award winner at the Asia Pacific Film Fest in Phuket, Thailand for her film direction of "Antara Dua Hati" (1998)
4. Wanita Cemerlang candidate organised by Avon-Cosmetics International 1989
