The assassination of J.W.W. Birch, the first British Resident in Perak, in 1875 resulted in the banishment of Sultan Abdullah to the Seychelles Islands. This manuscript contains the petition and correspondence between W.H. Hawley (Government House, Mauritius) and Sir Henry Holland, Secretary of State, pertaining to the application and petition signed by the residents of Seychelles Islands to grant a pardon to Sultan Abdullah.
