Masjid Negeri (The State Mosque) of Negeri Sembilan was built on a hill with an area of five acres near the State Legislative Assembly Hall. Early construction works began with a ceremony to determine the direction of the qibla which was done by the Menteri Besar, YAB Tan Sri Dr. Mohamed Said on 25 March 1966. The design of the mosque is based on a nine edged split formation.. Its roof was constructed from reinforced concrete in 9 curved pieces which, when combined, forms an umbrella-like shape measuring 100 feet in diameter. The mosque was officially opened by His Majesty DYMM Yang diPertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Jaafar Al-Haj Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman on Friday, 24 November 1967.
