The National Anthem of the Federation of Malaya Selection Ceremony was held on 5 August 1957 at the Police Depot Hall, Kuala Lumpur. This selection was made by the National Anthem Selection Committee, chaired by YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, Chief Minister of the Federal of Malaya with the members of Association consisting of Encik Ya'acob Abdul Latiff (Director of Information Services), Tuan A.T. Reid (Deputy Director of Broadcasting), Tuan Ong Yoke Lin (Minister of Vehicle and Transportation), Haji Mustapha Al-Bakri (Keeper of the Malay Rulers' Seal), Cik Halimathon (Member of Federal Legislative Council), Dato' Abdul Razak Hussein (Minister of Education) and Tuan W. Crops (Music Director, Federal Police Force Band). A total of four songs were played by the Federation of Malaya Police Force Band. The song "Terang Bulan" which was the state anthem of Perak was chosen as the Federation of Malaya national anthem due to its Malay elements. The result of this selection was then forwarded to obtain permission from the Council of Malay Rulers. The national anthem was first played for the public on the night of 31 August 1957 at the Selangor Royal Club field.
 
"Negaraku" – The Independent Federation of Malaya song began to be played for the public on the night of 31 August 1957 at the Selangor Royal Club field.
