On 28 August 1957, YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya, announced the cabinet members who will be sitting in the first Alliance Cabinet for the Federation of Malaya in a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur. Members of the New Cabinet were Dato 'Abdul Razak bin Hussein (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence); Colonel Sir Henry Hau Shik Lee (Minister of Finance);Mr. Sulaiman bin Dato' Abdul Rahman (Minister of Interior and Justice), Mr. Tan Siew Sin (Minister of Business and Industry); Mr. V.T.Sambanthan (Minister of Health): Mr. Mohamed Khir Johari (Minister of Education);Mr. Ong Yoke Lin (Minister of Labour and Community Welfare), Mr. Abdul Rahman bin Hj. Taib (Minister of Transport): Mr. Bahaman Samsudin (Minister of Land Revenue); Mr. Abdul Aziz (Minister of Agriculture); Mr. Haji Sardon Jubir (Minister of Works, Post and Telecom); and Dr. Ismail bin Dato 'Abdul Rahman, the Absolute Minister (not holding a Ministerial post) and the Representative to the United Nations and Ambassador to Washington.
