On 20 February 1956, the Independence of the Federation of Malaya was announced at Padang Bandar Hilir, Malacca. This historical moment also saw the YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya announcing that in accordance with the Independence Treaty that was signed on 8 February 1956, the Federation of Malaya would achieve independence officially on 31 August 1957. The cry cries of "Merdeka" resounded in the sky skies of Padang Bandar Hilir alongside the independence declaration in which there were over 100, 000 people who came from all over corners of the Federation of Malaya. The Independence declaration was made just immediately after the independence mission group, led by the YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra who signed off the Independence Treaty on 8 February 1956 returned from London. The homecoming of the independence mission group led by the YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra was celebrated with much jubilation and they were escorted by a group of young riders on motorcycles along with a throng of cars all the way from the Batu Berendam Airport, Malacca to Padang Bandar Hilir, Malacca.
UMNO Youth riding motorcycles ushering the YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya and the Independence Mission Group were celebrated with jubilation much excitement along the stretch of roads from the Batu Berendam Airport until Padang Banda Hilir, Malacca on 20 February 1956.
