ANM Negeri Sabah
HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
National Archives of Malaysia, Sabah Branch was established on 1st February 1977 which is after 20 years existence of National Archives, and started their operation in Federal House, Kota Kinabalu. On 20th June 1977, National Archives of Malaysia, Sabah Branch has moved to Nosmal Court Building in Jalan Pantai, Kota Kinabalu. Then, it was changed to Wisma YTL Building at Jalan Kolombong, Inanam on 1st September 1985. Finally, they moved to their own building at Jalan Penampang which was completed in 2006. The construction of this building started in 2003 on the land area of 3.5 acres with the cost of RM 27 millions. This building was officially opened on 13th April 2006 by the Honorable Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, Minister of Culture, Art and Heritage Malaysia. National Archives Of Malaysia Sabah Branch responsible on department records and federal agency in Sabah. To date is a sum 1,995 departments and federal agency in Sabah only.
VISION
To lead in records management and archives administration inclusively.
MISSION
Empowering records management in the public sector and archives administration through smart partnerships and efficient and effective utilization of information and communication technologies in the interests of society and the country.
OBJECTIVE
- Improve efficiency and awareness of civil servants with regard to Record Management through the enforcement of the National Archives Act 2003 (Act 629) to ensure that records are managed in a systematic and cost-effective according to the standards set.
- Acquiring archival material with eternal value, save and preservedin accordance with the principles and standards set as a reference and national heritage.
- Communalizing archival materials through advocacy programs to enhance the appreciation of the history of the country towards the establishment of the identity of Malaysians.
FUNCTION
- To provide consultancy service to the department and government agency on a systematic and effective public record management.
- To trace, acquire and keep all types of records and documents which has national and historical value as a national heritage
- To provide reference and research centre to the department and government agencies as well to the public.
- To roll out research and documentation programme in order to signify the information regarding national history.
- To disseminate knowledge and information of historical value to the public.
