HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
The National Archives of Malaysia, Kelantan State Branch, was established to manage archival work at the state level in Kelantan as a 'Miniature Archives.' The Kelantan State Branch of the National Archives of Malaysia began with the establishment of the East Zone National Archives of Malaysia, which covered Terengganu, Kelantan, and Pahang, on April 14, 1978. On February 1, 1987, it was established as the Record Service Center of Kelantan State and upgraded to the status of the National Archives of Malaysia State Branch in January 1988. Subsequently, in 2015, rebranding was done and the name was changed to the National Archives of Malaysia, Kelantan State. The Kelantan State Branch of the National Archives of Malaysia began operations in the Federal Building of Terengganu State. Starting in February 1987, it has been operating at the Federal Building, Jalan Doktor, Kota Bharu, to date. To ensure sufficient space for archival material storage (repository), the National Archives of Malaysia, Kelantan State, rented additional space in the Employees Provident Fund Building starting in 1994.

Empowering records management in the public sector and archives administration through smart partnerships and efficient and effective utilization of information and communication technologies in the interests of society and the country.
OBJECTIVE
- Improve efficiency and awareness of civil servants with regard to Record Management through the enforcement of the National Archives Act 2003 (Act 629) to ensure that records are managed in a systematic and cost-effective according to the standards set.
- Acquiring archival material with eternal value, save and preservedin accordance with the principles and standards set as a reference and national heritage.
- Communalizing archival materials through advocacy programs to enhance the appreciation of the history of the country towards the establishment of the identity of Malaysians.
FUNCTION
- To provide advisory service in relation to a systematic, efficient and economical record management for the state/federal public office in the entire state of Kelantan.
- To trace, acquire and keep all types of records and documents which has national and historical value for permanent storage in the National Archives of Malaysia, Kelantan Branch in which it serves as a custodian to the archives records from state/federal public office in the entire State of Kelantan.
- To process records that has been transferred by state/federal public office in the entire state of Kelantan for permanent storage in the National Archives of Malaysia, Kelantan Branch.
- To carry out records conservation activities under the care of National Archives of Malaysia, Kelantan Branch as well as to monitor collection materials are in good and perfect conditions.
- To provide reference and research service to the public, students from institute of higher learning as well as government departments and agencies.
- To carry out expansion and educational archives activities in the effort to disseminate national heritage treasury collections under storage and custodian of the National Archives of Malaysia, Kelantan Branch.
