Acquisition of Private Archive Section

  1. The Acquisition Section is responsible for ensuring that the acquisition of collections of historical and national private archives is carried out systematically and effectively. Acquisition of private archive materials covers three (3) main categories:
    • Private Papers involve figures from various fields and their respective expertise in contributing to the country (not a statesman figure) as well as from the immediate family heirs / family members;
    • Private Collection involves individuals who have material related to national history as well as archival materials purchased from overseas institutions in the form of digital image copies or microfilms; and
    • Organization Archives, Economic Archives, Sports Archives, Political Associations Archives, Organizational and Voluntary Archives and Religious Archives.

  2. Acquisition of this material is conducted for the purpose of:
    • Enrich collection of archive material at ANM for reference and research purposes.
    • Enhancing the acquisition of private archive materials collection from various sources within and outside the country as a supporting material to the official records of the country.

  3. Some approaches have been made to enrich and empower collection of private archive materials:
    • Promote cooperation with non-governmental institutions, individuals within and outside the country in the acquisition of records on Malaysia.
    • Conduct a continuous study to identify and obtain records of Malaysia from domestic and foreign non-government sources.
    • Retrieve private records from individuals and non-governmental organizations with donations, purchases, rewards, and wills.
