The Audio Visual Archives Section

The Audio Visual Archives Section is responsible for the acquisition and accession of audio visual archives for preservation, conservation, and providing reference and access.  The tasks and responsibilities are carried out by Multimedia Audio Visual and Film Unit. and Photographic Unit

OBJECTIVE OF SECTION

  • Enhance the acquisition and preservation of audio visual archives of historical and national values as references for future generations.

FUNGSI SEKSYEN

  • To acquire and receive the audio visual archives.
  • To ensure the preservation and conservation of audio visual archives in accordance with the best practice of the international archives.
  • To provide an effective reference and access facilities for the researchers.

MULTIMEDIA AUDIO VISUAL AND FILM UNIT

  1. Develop the management policy and standard of the film and audio visual archives.
  2. Plan and implement the advisory services for the preservation of the film and audio visual archives.
  3. Plan and implement the documentation of historical events, buildings and places.
  4. Develop and plan the acquisition strategy of the archival materials from the public sectors, statutory bodies, government linked companies (GLC) and the private and personal sources local and overseas including:
    • Script
    • Poster
    • Newspaper
    • Magazine
    • Books
  1. Identify the source and conducting study on the materials based on:
    • Archival values
    • Physical characteristics
    • Price
    • Terms and Conditions
  1. Acquire archival materials through:
    • The implementation of National Archives Act 2003, Circulars, and  National Archives’ Rules
    • International MoU
    • Negotiation
    • Purchase
    • Donation / Gift
    • Loans
    • Exchanges
    • Copy
  1. To carry out the selection and appraisal of the materials based on:
    • Archival Criteria
    • Collection Review
    • Physical Condition
    • Materials Profile
    • Supporting Documents
    • Intrinsic Values
  1. To carry out the accession and transfer includes:
    • Review the list of transfers
    • Cleaning
    • Arrangement and classification of materials
    • Registration and entering metadata into the COMPASS
  2. Plan and implement the preservation of physical materials including the management of repository.
  3. Plan and implement materials digitization for the purpose of preservation and access.
  4. Provide access to the film and audio visual archives via research room facilities.
  5. Plan and develop creative videos by utilizing audio visual archives for the purpose of access that includes:
    • Providing the storyline
    • Providing the storyboard
    • Video Development
  1. Plan and manage:
    • The acquisition and maintenance of audio visual equipment.
    • The maintenance of audio visual studio and digitization lab.

PHOTOGRAPHIC UNIT

  1. Develop management policy and standard for physical and digital photograph.
  2. Plan and implement advisory services on the preservation of physical and digital photograph.
  3. Develop and plan the acquisition strategy of the physical and digital photograph from the public sectors, statutory bodies, and the government linked companies (GLC).
  4. Plan and implement the documentation of historical events, buildings and places.

    • Editing
    • Watermark
    • Upload image into the COMPASS system
  1. Plan and manage the acquisition and the maintenance of the photography equipment.
